about

If you ever catch B.R.E.W. not scribbling lyrics or song concepts in an ever-present notebook, it’s a rare occasion indeed. The thought-provoking emcee and beatsmith, born Corey Brubaker, has been writing and performing music since his middle school years in his native Sioux City, Iowa.

Like most music-hungry kids, B.R.E.W. discovered a wide array of genres by digging through his dad’s record collection at an early age. Later, as a high schooler, B.R.E.W. fronted and sang in two Punk bands: Click and The Unexpected.

Post-high school, his life transformed to skateboarding and freestyle rapping after being exposed to Underground Hip-Hop culture.

From there, with his longtime friend DJ Poyo, B.R.E.W. (then going by Dieverse) met poet The Top Civilian and helped found The Gateway Drug in 2003, after a serendipitous freestyle session at his mom’s house.

The trio would go on to independently release three official albums and two mixtapes together while winning numerous awards and becoming a critically-acclaimed group on the local Hip-Hop scene.

While recording and performing as one third of The Gateway Drug, B.R.E.W. picked up producing himself in 2008. Dabbling in Fruity Loops Studio, MIDI boards, vocal mixing and song mastering, B.R.E.W. has found a kindred sound influenced by Hip-Hop, Punk, Experimental and good music in general.

A voice grounded in reality, but with a creative flow not limited by bonds of conventional Hip-Hop, B.R.E.W. is ready to let his work do the talking. No hype, just relatable content from an artist working to master a craft.
